50th Celebrations Welcome
Dear parents, guardians, pupils, former pupils, former parents and friends of Scoil Mhuire GNS, it is my absolute pleasure as Principal of Scoil Mhuire GNS to celebrate the wonderful milestone of 50 years since the opening of our school. The school has the most fantastic location between the Irish Sea and the wonderful village of Sandymount which has added to the wonderfully unique school that it has always been.
I arrived in Scoil Mhuire GNS in September 1996 fresh from a stint of teaching in North London. Even though my contract in London was only a few months it did make me question if teaching was the career for me. It was a tough school in London and teachers seemed to come and go weekly. I arrived back in Dublin in the summer of 1996 and started the job hunt. A college friend rang me to tell me that she had a job for the year at Scoil Mhuire GNS but had subsequently got one locally and if I went out to meet the Principal in Scoil Mhuire GNS I might have a chance of the job. I remember arriving at the school on a lovely sunny August day, getting lost and walking up the nun’s driveway when a smiling and friendly Ms. Price arrived out the office doors to rescue me.
I hopped the white fence and the rest is history as they say. I was replacing the wonderful Deirdre Seaver that year and many years later she would come back to help our school prepare for all our sacraments.
