Reopening School

Picture
We greatly look forward to reopening school and welcoming you all back.

To do this safely and in line with current guidance and recommendations will require the co-operation and patience of all members of our school community.
You will find a number of documents below that detail the safe and sustainable reopening of Scoil Mhuire. We would greatly appreciate if you could take some time to read these documents.
  • Covid 19 Policy Statement
  • Covid 19 Response Plan
  • Covid 19 School Risk Assessment
  • Plan Detailing the Logistics of Reopening the School

To help us get the children into and out of school safely we ask children in Senior Classes to enter the school grounds by themselves. Parents of younger children are asked to minimise the time spent on school premises
  • Information for the first day can be found here
  • This map shows entry points to the school

How Will It All Work in Scoil Mhuire? - these frequently asked questions should help

What time does school start/finish?
Arrival time is 8:45 - 9:10 for all classes. (For Week 1 only, Junior & Senior Infants will arrive at 9:30)
Going home time is 1:30 for Junior and Senior Infants,
                             2:30 for 1st and 2nd Class
                             2:40 for 3rd - 6th Class

Can I come into the school to drop/collect my daughter?
No. Unfortunately, parents will not be allowed into the school at this time.
Parents of children from Junior Infants to 3rd Class can come into the school grounds to quickly drop/collect their child.
Parents of children from 4th to 6th Class are asked to arrange a drop/collect point for their child outside the school grounds and to allow her to walk in by herself. See our Map for further information.

Can I drive into the school grounds?
No. To facilitate the arrival and departure of chldren, no cars will be allowed into or out of the school gates between 8:30 and 3:00 pm.

What happens if it is raining?
Please make sure your daughter has a coat/umbrella. We cannot open the school doors before 8:45am or allow parents in to the school to collect children early at going home time.

She forgot her lunch/schoolbag, etc. What do I do?
A Drop Off Box is located outside the front door of the school (outside Secretary's Office). Items should be labelled with your child's name and class and left here. We will check this box regularly and distribute to your child's class.

I need to collect my daughter early, what do I do?
Please notify the teacher/school in advance by email or phone. When you arrive at the school ring the bell to notify that you have arrived. Your child will be brought out to the school door to meet you. Parents are asked not to enter the school building.

My daughter is arriving late for school, what do I do?
Please walk her to the front door (at Secretary's Office) and ring bell. A member of staff will meet your daughter and bring her to her class.

How will the school day be different?
We are mindful that there is a lot of change for the children. For the first few weeks, the emphasis in school will be on settling the girls back in, teaching them the new hygiene and socially distancing routines, talking to them about their experiences since March 14th and revising concepts from last year. SPHE, PE, Language and Maths will be prioritised for the first few weeks.

My daughter is in a class pod. What is a Bubble/Pod?
Each pair of classes has been grouped into a colour coded bubble. Interaction between bubbles will be limited as much as possible. Each bubble will have a separate zone in the yard to play in. Within each class the children have been further subdivided into pods (or groups). Within each class there will be 1m distance between pods.  Further information can be found here

How can I contact my daughter's teacher?
Unfortunately, parents will not be able to drop in to talk to the teacher. Teachers can be contacted through their @scoilmhuire email address, by phone or through the Homework Journal. Teachers will then be able to phone you or arrange a meeting in the school. All meetings must be prearranged and approved by the principal.

My daughter is "a bit off" this morning, what should I do?
If your child is sick she should not attend school. Please email the teacher to say she is sick. HSE guidance can be found here

What happens if my child gets sick during the school day?
You will be phoned and asked to collect her as soon as possible. If she displays any symptoms of Covid 19 - (high temperature, Shortness of Breath, Breathing Difficulties, Cough) she will be brought to the Isolation Area by a member of staff and you will be contacted to collect her. Please see our Response Plan for more information.

A child in my daughter's class has contracted/suspected of having Covid 19, will the school let me know?
No. In line with Department of Education guidelines, HSE are responsible for Contact Tracing. They will inform parents if required. To protect personal confidentiality, the school cannot give information or respond to rumours/Whatsapp in relation to any child/member of staff.

Will After School activities take place?
For the first few weeks, no after school activities will take place. The Board of Management will continue to monitor the situation in the hope of commencing some activities in the coming weeks.

What about the Morning/Afternoon (1:30-2:30) Club?
Unfortunately these will not take place for the moment. The Board of Management will review the situation in the coming weeks
